SSH connection refused on Amazon EC2 instance

Does this sound familiar?
ssh: connect to host ec2-xx-xx-xxx-xxx.compute-1.amazonaws.com
port 22: Connection refused
A few days back, one of my friends was having an issue with his Amazon EC2 production instance. He was able to SSH into it a few days back, but all of a sudden, he was not able to get into it.

Now thats a big problem. You cannot do anything with an amazon EC2 instance if you cannot SSH into it. Well, i started troubleshooting.

Make sure that your PHP code is compatible with the new version of PHP on your web server

Many times, this happens with almost every developer. You wrote code for PHP 4.2. Few years later, you decide to upgrade your Web Server. Lets say, you are installing PHP 5.3. Its a headache just thinking about how your code will perform or how many places the code will break where the functions used have been deprecated or removed from the new PHP version.

Debug not working in CakePHP 2 test cases ?

From the past few months, i have been involved in a lot of Test Driven Development with CakePHP 2. It uses an excellent tool called PHPUnit for TDD. A major source of irritation for me was the debug function not working in case you need to see the output of something. The framework swallows the debug output and does not show anything.
